Objective: The aim of the course is to promote a safer plant from the design phase through to operations. Practitioners will appreciate the inherently safer design strategies and hierarchical approach directed towards a safer plant. Continuous efforts towards safety in operations are presented.

Sypnosis: The approach towards a safer plant by implementing requirements from codes, standards and best practices is addressed. Identification of hazards, risk assessment and formal safety assessment studies are included. Topics on explosions, fires and toxic releases and the impact on health, safety and environment are covered. Case Studies are presented to provide lessons learnt from incidents and to ensure plants are made safer. 

Target participants: HSE & safety professionals; electrical, instrument, mechanical, piping and engineers of other disciplines; operation and production practitioners; supervisors and managers.

  • 6 SDU points by WHS-CPD Board and qualified for 6 PDUs by PEB

0945-1030 Safer design through implementing requirements from codes, standards and best practices: API, ATEX, BS, EI, FM Global, HSE, IMO, ISO, NFPA, NORSOK, SS

1030-1045 Tea Break

1045-1115 Inherently Safer Design strategies and hierarchical approach.

1115-1200 Hazards identification, risk assessment, formal safety assessment studies and project reviews.

1200-1300 Lunch

1300-1345 Implementation of a safer approach during fabrication, construction, testing and commissioning phases including vendor equipment and accessories.

1345-1430 Continuous improvement process from operations, production and maintenance. Management of Change assessment and procedures.

1430-1445 Tea Break

1445-1630 Case Studies. What can we learn and adopt from accidents/incidents to improve and make the plant safer.
